Steve Mefford

Steve got an early start in technology – as a young man he liked to dismantle and try to fix all things electronic, like tube televisions and cassette players. When he was a high-school senior, Steve decided to go into the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 5 years as an avionics electrician working on jets and helicopters. After the Marines, Steve attended Eastern Illinois University, where he received his bachelor’s degree.

In 1996 he began working for TechKnowledgy Education Centers, selling Microsoft and Novell certified engineer training classes to both corporate clients and individuals. From there he moved to Callero Management Information Systems, where he developed sales strategies and tactics to successfully grow the business in the EDI bar coding and inventory control sector. When he began to lose interest in the tech field, he took a sales role with Tubular Steel, a national distributor of all types of steel tubing. During his first full year with the company, he was named Salesperson of the Year, and realized he had found his niche. He went on to hold sales positions with Tatung Science and Technology, a manufacturer of SPARC computer systems, and with Midwest Computer Products, a company that sold all sorts of AV equipment focused on the education market. This was where Steve first was introduced to Mimio. He understood the technology and was energized by what it could do and what it meant to educators in terms of both functionality and affordability.

In Mimio, Steve found his passion. He joined Mimio in August, 2006 and has never looked back. After working for Mimio in National Accounts and Partner Development and managing a regional sales team, he became the National Sales Manager for Mimio. No one who works with Steve ever questions his unrelenting passion for Mimio products and brand!

Updates in Freight Costs

Now that we are no longer associated with Newell Rubbermaid, in reviewing our shipping costs Mimio has found that our costs have gone up significantly.  In lieu of increasing prices on our products, we felt it would be better to adjust our shipping costs.  Effective June 1, 2014, Mimio’s freight policy is changing.  Please see below for the updates to our shipping policy for Partners purchasing directly through Mimio:

  • Mimio is raising FedEx prices across the board.
  • There will no longer be free shipping for large orders or for Gold-level dealers.  
  • Mimio reserves the right to charge the actual freight cost if it is above current shipping rates.
  • If you would rather use your own rates, you may include the Partner Company FedEx or UPS account number on the PO.  Please be sure to note the number and shipping company clearly on the PO in this case.

Announcing the Mimio/Epson Partnership for MimioStudio Classroom Software

Mimio and Epson are announcing today a partnership whereby Epson will offer MimioStudio for sale with Epson BrightLink interactive projectors.  This partnership is for US and Canada.  It will help to increase Mimio’s brand awareness as well as drive the growth of Mimio’s presence in the education marketplace.   

Effective today, Epson will be able to sell MimioStudio software licenses with Epson BrightLink interactive projectors to the education market. The software may also be purchased separately by existing Epson BrightLink customers.  Per the agreement, Epson’s reseller network will only be selling MimioStudio software licenses. 

Below are the benefits of the Epson partnership to you:

  • If you currently are an Epson BrightLink provider, bundling MimioStudio software just got easier.
  • If you are not an Epson reseller, we believe this partnership will provide more opportunities to sell MimioMobile and our hardware products into Epson installations.
  • Partnering with the number-one selling projector brand worldwide, we foresee an increase in Mimio’s brand recognition as well as incremental hardware and software sales to you.

MimioStudio 11.2 includes MimioMobile for 3 Devices, Oh My!

We’re excited to announce the release of MimioStudio 11.2 classroom software on the website, with an additional feature. MimioStudio 11.2 allows each classroom with a Mimio hardware or software license to connect up to three mobile devices using the MimioMobile app, for FREE.

This is a great way for your customers to try out MimioMobile before buying the MimioMobile app for the whole classroom.

Now with MimioStudio 11.2 software, a teacher can connect three mobile devices with the MimioMobile app to:

Partner Summit

Mimio’s product release schedule for our major releases in 2014 is for late summer/early fall.  For our 2014 Partner Summit, we would like to provide you training and beta versions of the new software.  Given our release schedule, we decided it would be a better, more efficient use of your time to have our Partner Summit in August or September when we will have the betas of our software, and exact details of all of our other 2014 releases ready.  Since we know our Partner Summit will be around the back to school timeframe, we need your input to determine  the best week to host this summit.  Please fill out our survey so we can include your considerations for the Partner Summit.  The Summit would be a 1 to 2 day event including hands-on time with the products.

Updated Pricing Doc Available NOW

We'd like to provide you with the updated price sheet with some corrections as well as some changes from the January pricelist.  

In general, Mimio will be providing a pricelist twice a year – January and June. By referring to the date, you will know if you are looking at the latest price sheet. The only variation to this schedule is a new product that comes out during another time of year or a product is taken off of our pricelist.  Therefore as needed, Mimio will update the price sheet in addition to the releases in January and June. 

You can reach out to your Territory Manager or distributor for the latest pricelist reflecting the latest changes.  All changes to the current price list are described below including our decision to retire MimioVote 24:

 

Changes to the current Mimio Pricing Doc:

  • Since the majority of orders are for MimioVote 32, we have decided to no longer sell MimioVote 24.  For all future orders and communication, please let your customers know we only sell MimioVote 32.  If there is a current bid or quote for MimioVote 24, you can speak to your Mimio Territory Manager about if we can honor MimioVote 24. 
  • MimioStudio’s description does not say Annual anymore; we apologize for the confusion in the previous pricing sheet.  When MimioStudio is purchased, it is a lifetime software license.
  • MimioCapture 2 felt eraser replacement pads also are for MimioCapture 3.  This has been included in the description and available in the corresponding section in the pricing doc.
  • The descriptions of the MimioCapture pens now correspond to the correct color of the MimioCapture pens.
  • We are no longer providing district pricing for MimioStudio or MimioMobile.  If you need a district price for our software or mobile app, you can discuss this price with your Mimio Territory Manager or distributor.

 

Answers to questions that have come up:

  • We no longer are offering the MimioHub+MimioStudio bundle. If someone is interested in these items, they can purchase the MimioHub and MimioStudio classroom license separately.
  • We are not selling the MimioView Microscope Adapter separately from the initial purchase of the MimioView – if something urgent comes up, reach out to your Mimio Territory Manager or distributor.
  • We are not selling the tip of the MimioProjector Pen.  If a customer needs a replacement, they can purchase a new MimioProjector Pen.
  • The MimioTeach 2 pack security bracket comes with 2 pieces but is for 1 MimioTeach.
  • NA and International power supplies for MimioTeach are available separately for purchase, but MimioTeach automatically comes with the International Power Supply.

Partner Assessment - Deadline May 31st

Just a reminder that the Mimio Partner Assessment is due by the end of this month!  We are requiring all of our reseller partners’ sales reps to pass our updated 25-question assessment by May 31, 2014.  This assessment is to ensure you understand the Authorized Mimio Partner Program, know what’s available on Partner Resources and on the Mimio website, and have adequate understanding of all Mimio products and training programs. Sales reps may reference any of these resources while completing the assessment. Each Mimio Reseller Partner Sales Rep must score 80% or higher (answer 20 questions correctly) to pass.

Again, you have until May 31st to complete this assessment.  Per the Authorized Reseller Partner Program commitment, if even one of your sales reps fails to complete this onboarding certification by May 31st, we will suspend your account until you are back in compliance.
